Wrestling Festival Set to Honor Coach Altebrando

An outdoor wrestling festival on July 7 will honor the late Vincent Altebrando, the coach of Walt Whitman High School’s varsity wrestling team.

The coach died in April at age 51 of an autoimmune disease.

The competition at Walt Whitman High School will be open to wrestlers in middle and high school, using the Madison weight system. The festival will include a DJ, raffles, concessions and a barbecue. In case of rain, the festival will be held in the gym.

Online registration fee is $30; walk-in, $40. Register at wrestlereg.com This is a USA Wrestling sanctioned event. A USA card is required, and can be purchased at TheMat.com Deadline is July 6 at midnight.

The winner of each weight will receive a Hammer Trophy. Second and third-place finishers will receive medals.

Half the proceeds will go directly to the Altebrando family.
