16 Percent of Long Islanders Infected by Covid-19, Cuomo Says

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said Thursday that antibody testing found that more than 16 percent of Long Islanders showed signs that they may have been infected with Covid-19. Statewide, the figure was nearly 14 percent, with New York City topping 21 percent.

About 3,000 residents in 19 counties have been surveyed in tests conducted outside grocery stores and big-box stores.

Cuomo also took on U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConell for his suggestion that states like New York to declare bankruptcy, calling the suggestion  “one of the really dumb ideas of all time.”

U.S. Rep Peter King, R-Wantagh, referred to McConnell as “the Marie Antoinette of the Senate,”

Cuomo also said testing would be increased in African-American and Latino communities by working with churches and other places of worship as possible testing sites.

He confirmed 6,244 new cases in the state, bringing the total to 263,460, with 438 new deaths.
