2 Accused of Trying to Scam Huntington Woman, 83

Two Bronx men were arrested by Suffolk County police Tuesday afternoon and charged with attempting to scam an older Huntington woman out of thousandsd of dollars.

Police said the 83-year-old woman received a call Tuesday from a man who told her that her granddaughter had been arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated. The caller said someone would come to her house to collect $7,500 to pay her granddaughter’s attorney fees.

The woman recognized that the call and called 911.Suffolk County Police Second Precinct Crime Section officers worked with the woman to watch her house during the exchange, the police department said.

The two men, identified a Felix Collado and Jose A.Cabrera-Urena, approached her home which was under surveillance by police, and began talking with her.

 After it was confirmed he was there for the money, officers approached the house and both men fled the scene in a car but were apprehended by Second Precinct Crime Section officers a short time later, at approximately 3:30 p.m.

Second Squad detectives charged Collado, 43,  and Cabrera-Urena, 29, with Attempted Grand Larceny 3rd Degree. Cabrera-Urena was also charged with Reckless Driving and multiple vehicle and traffic violations. Both are scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Wednesday.
