Correction: 2 Candidates for Northport Library Board Up for Vote

Voters will choose between two candidates for the board of trustees for Northport-East Northport Public Library

There will be no budget vote because it was previously approved.

The vote will be conducted by absentee ballot. Votes will be canvassed June 9. Absentee ballots will be sent to all identified qualified voters of the district., and must be received in the Office of the School District Clerk not later than 5 p.m. on June 9.

The two candidates are Georgeanne White, the chair of the board of trustees. Her career extends across 41 years, as a public school teacher and then as a school librarian. She also worked as a part-time librarian at the Harborfields Public Library. She has been a library trustee for the past five years, and held the positions of financial secretary, vice chairperson, and currently chairperson.  She is on the executive board of the “ Huntington Neighbors Club,” and a volunteer at the “Helping Hand Rescue Mission.” As a trustee, her goal for the library is to recognize the importance of the library as a center for information, culture, and recreation, as well as, a resource to provide life-long learning in the community.

Amy Connor is also seeking a spot on the board. She has an undergraduate degree in Arts Management from Bucknell University, a certificate in fundraising from New York University, and additional fundraising education from Hofstra University. Before leaving the workplace to raise her children, she was the owner of a special events company in NYC that handled weddings and other high profile events for celebrities, companies, and non-profits. For the past 20 years she’s been a
mom and a community volunteer in many capacities Her goal is to use her experience to not only further the mission of the Library, but to enhance it and continue to increase its service to the community.
