2 Greenlawn American Legion Post Members Honored

Ed O’Shea and Charlie Armstrong of the Greenlawn American Legion Post 1244 were honored recently with a New York State Senate Commendation Award in recognition of their dedication and commitment to the post’s Boys and Girls State program.

The NYS Senate Commendation Award, presented by State Sen. Jim Gaughran, recognizes exceptional people who have made a lasting contribution to their community. The two organize and run the Greenlawn American Legion’s Boys and Girls State program, which gives high school students experience in government and how it is supposed to function.

They have been key in securing state funding for the program, which will allow the program to expand and reach more students.

Gaughran surprised O’Shea and Armstrong with the award at the Legion’s November meeting.

Gaughran said, “Ed O’Shea and Charlie Armstrong represent the best of our community. Their unwavering commitment to our next generation ensures that dozens of high school students are exposed to the levers of government in a dynamic and stimulating manner. I thank them for their continued efforts to bettering our community and our young folks.”
