2 Pedestrians Seriously Injured in Separate Crashes

Two pedestrians were seriously injured when they were struck by vehicles in separate crashes Friday night.

Suffolk County police said Daryl Sair  was hit by a 2006 Toyota RAV 4 driven by Nicolas Baldanza, who was heading south on New York Avenue near Fairmount Street at approximately 11:25 p.m.

Sair, 34, was taken by Huntington Community First Aid to Huntington Hospital in serious condition. Baldanza, 21, of Huntington was not injured.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

Earlier in the evening, a teenager was struck and seriously injured when he was struck by a car in Commack Friday night.

Suffolk County police said the 16-year-old, a Chinese national attending school in the United States and residing in Commack, was hit by a southbound 2003 Jaguar X-Type driven by George Geevarghese. Police said the teen might have been crossing the road from east to west.
The teen was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital in serious but stable condition.

Geevarghese, 69, of Commack, was not injured.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.

The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
