35,000 Without Power, PSEG-LI Says

PSEG-LI said Sunday that about 35,000 people remain without power as of about noon after Tropical Storm Isaias barreled across Long Island Tuesday. That includes about 8,389 in the Town of Huntington.

The utility said that about 420,000 customers lost service after wires were pulled down by toppling trees, cuttting power to homes and businesses, taking out cellphone and TV service.

It said that its outage map isn’t always up to date as crews, many from out of state, complete work across Long Island. Crews are prioritizing critical facilities first, fit said, followed by outages affecting the largest numbers of customers, and then address outages affecting small numbers or individual customers.

More than 5,600 lineworkers, tree trimmers and other personnel are working, in 16-hour shifts, until all service is restored, it said. More are expected to arrive Monday.
