3rd UPDATE: Driver Arrested After Striking Teen Pedestrian

3rd UPDATE 3:05 p.m.

Suffolk County police arrested an East Norwich woman after  her car struck a student Tuesday morning near Northport High School.

The teenager was airlifted to Stony Brook Medical Center for treatment of his serious injuries, the police said.

Police said Janet Aliperti, 57, with aggravated unlicense operation of a motor vehicle, third degree, operation while registration is suspended and an uninsured vehicle. Police said she was eastbound on Laurel Hill Road when she struck the boy.

The accident happened at the Pine Court intersection with Laurel Hill Road at 8:08 a.m.

Newsday reported that the pedestrian was a student on the way to cross-country practice.

Tuesday was the first of a two-day Superintendent’s Day in the Northport school district.
