4 Candidates for 2 Spots on Harborfields Board of Education

Four people, including two incumbents, are running for election to the  Harborfields Board of Education next week.

In addition to selecting two board trustees, voters will be asked to consider the proposed budget of $96,259,671 with a tax levy increase of 2.21 percent.

Running for re-election are president Christopher Kelly, who has served on the board for six years, and David Steinberg, who has been a trustee for nine years. Also running are two women with educational credentials, Rose Wyka, a former classroom English teacher, and Meghan Grote Shear, a math special education teacher in Syosset.

The candidates will meet Monday night in a forum sponsored by the Harborfields Council of PTAs and moderated by the Greenlawn Civic Association; 7 p.m. at Harborfields High School.

Budget highlights include the addition of  a career and technical education program for those who are considering becoming teachers, new clubs at two schools, investments in district security,
cybersecurity and technology enhancements, athletic uniform replacements and more.
