5k Run to Support Kids Summer Program

A 5k run is set for May 18 to support Project PLAY/St.John’s , a summer program for income eligible resident children. The May 18 event includes a youth fun run for those ages 6-10. A separate fundraiser for the program originally scheduled for Monday was canceled last month and has not been rebooked.

The 5k starts and finishes at Heckscher Park and runs along the water on West Shore Road, for an out and back course.There will be a water stop at the 1.5 mile mark along the course.  All participants receive a t-shirt. The event includes give-aways, raffle prizes, awards and more.

The Youth Fun Run is a 1/4 mile around the lake at Heckscher Park starting at 8:30am. All youth participants will receive a finisher medal.

Awards will be given out to the overall top 3 males and females and the top 3 males and females in each age group. 14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-80, 80 +

Project PLAY offers a variety of activities such as arts and crafts, sports, gardening, reading program, special events and field trips. Breakfast, lunch and a snack are provided under USDA guidelines as is limited bus transportation service.
