    • On Nov. 28, Temple Beth El of Huntington, 660 Park Ave., was illegally entered and cash was taken. It is being investigated as a burglary.

Inspector William Scrima, commanding officer of the Suffolk County Second Precinct, said Young Israel, at 598 Park Ave., reported the theft after learning about the burglary at Temple Beth El.

He said that a hate crime is in the penal law to increase sentencing guidelines for a number of offenses, if it is proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the offense was committed in whole or in substantial part because of a religion, race, gender, etc.

Scrima said the department has increased patrols at all places of worship through the holiday season.
