Arts Roundup: Variety Is the Spice This Week

What: Walking with Whitman: Tom Pickard
Where: Walt Whitman Birthplace
When: Friday, Oct. 5, 6:00 pm (Doors open at 5:30 pm)
About: There is an open mic at 6 pm, free with admission. Then, after a musical prelude, the main event begins at 8 p.m. Tom Pickard, an important initiator of the British Poetry Revival movement of the ‘60s, reads. This is the 8th season of the association’s poetry in performance series.
Cost: $10 members; $15 nonmembers

What: Lynch Ballet Student Showcase
Where: North Country Village Shopping Center, 237A E. Main St., Huntington
When: Saturday, Oct. 6, 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm
About: Solo variations performed by students. An ensemble piece choreographed by Jan Hanniford Goetz.

About: A fun, interactive pre-Halloween art workshop for families and artists of all ages. No experience required.

What: Northport Arts Coalition Presents the Counterclockwise Ensemble
Where: Northport Public Library
When: Wednesday, Oct. 10, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
About: A unique listening experience that combines the intimacy and instrumentation of chamber music with the energy and vitality of a rock concert. The Counterclockwise Ensemble is a guitar, strings, and percussion quintet that evokes the mood and spirit of European and American classical masterpieces.
