What: “Teotihuacan, City of Fire, City of Water,” an Art Lecture with Thomas Germano
Where: Huntington Public Library
When: Friday, September 28th 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm
About: Teotihuacan is the important cultural and political center whose remains lie in a vast Mexican archaeological complex 30 miles northeast of Mexico City. Built between the 1st and 7th centuries AD, it is renowned for two massive pyramidal structures, dedicated to the Sun and the Moon, laid out with geometry and symbols of cosmic meaning, and long referred to as “The Place Where The Gods Were Created.” This visual lecture, by Professor Thomas Germano, concentrates on the painting, sculpture, architecture and utilitarian art objects from this site. Before its mysterious fall, Teotihuacan had extended its cultural and artistic influence throughout Mesoamerica, attracting Zapotec and Maya cultures to visit and live in the city. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the most visited archaeological site in Mexico. Open to all. To register, call 631-427-5165.
