As Coronavirus Spreads, Here’s Where to Get a Test

As the coronavirus infection rate continues to rise, health experts are encouraging people to continue taking precautions and that those who may have been exposed to the virus get tested.

Town Supervisor Chad Lupinacci issued a townwide alert this week asking residents to follow safety protocols of wearing a mask, washing hands and keeping social distances to prevent infection. Asked about his own mask use, he said, “It’s almost become second nature, having a mask on most of the time. The running joke behind the scenes at our remote Town Board meetings is ‘why is Chad wearing a mask?’ when I am sitting in front of the laptop, but the reason I am wearing it is because I have staff in the room with me. We are always spaced out and properly distanced but you can never be too sure with this virus, you can’t let you guard down, so I hope it sets an example and serves as a reminder for those watching.”

Here’s who should get tested, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

  • People who have symptoms of COVID-19.
  • People who have had close contact (within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more) with someone with confirmed COVID-19.
  • People who have been asked or referred to get testing by their healthcare provider or local or state public health department.

Here are some of the places offering tests, though not everyone will meet the requirements and a screening to verify eligiblility may be required.  Dr. Nick Fitterman, president of Huntington Hospital, warns that some facilities are offering more sensitive tests than others.
