Bacteria Closes 4 Huntington Beaches

The Suffolk County Department of Health  said Friday that four beaches in Huntington are closed to bathing because of high bacteria levels.

Knollwood Beach Association, Fleets Cove Beach, Huntington Beach Community Association and Centerport  Yacht Club beaches are all closed. In addition, Valley Grove Beach in Eatons Neck remains closed.

The department noted that bathing in contaminated water can lead to gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose and throat.

Beaches are expected to reopen once testing reveals that the bacteria levels have fallen.
