Beigel Family Sets Up Camp Fundraiser

The family of Scott Beigel, a teacher killed at the Parkland school massacre one year ago Thursday, has set up a summer camp fundraiser in his name.

The  Scott J. Beigel Memorial Fund Inc. will help send underprivileged children affected by gun violence to summer camp.

“We have combined Scott’s love of summer camp with his love for helping children,” his stepfather, Michael Schulman, said.

Tuesday afternoon, one day after the fundraiser was announced, $1,169  of the goal of $5,000 had been donated.

Since Beigel’s killing, his mother, Linda Beigel Schulman of Dix Hills, has been active in changing gun laws. The teacher was one of 17 killed on Valentine’s Day last year when a young gunman entered Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. Another 17 people were wounded.
