Best Market to Close Sunday for Changeover to Lidl Store

Best Market in Huntington Station will close its doors Sunday night and reopen as a Lidl store after the new year.

It’s another transition for the grocery store at 711 East Jericho Turnpike, which was previously a Waldbaum’s that was renovated to expand deli services before reopening as a Best Market in 2012. Lidl bought the Best Market chain in November.

Signs in the store recommend customers head to other Best Markets in Commack, Syosset or East Northport. A sign on a cash machine in the store read “Going to Northport.”

The store is open every day from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m.

Supermarket News said Lidl is “poised to disrupt” the highly competitive New York grocery store market with its hard discounts.
