Bethel AME Celebrates Its 175th Anniversary

 

Bethel AME Church marked its 175th anniversary Saturday with a celebration at Woodbury Country Club.

The oldest African-American church in Huntington, it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

The Rev. Dr. Kevin D. Jordan acted as master of ceremonies, while local officials including Town Supervisor Chad Lupinacci, State Assemblyman Steve Stern, Suffolk Legislator William “Doc” Spencer and South Huntington school board trustee Sidney B. Joyner participated in the celebration; others such as Gov. Cuomo, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, U.S. Rep. Thomas Suozzi were among many others who sent their congratulations to the church and pastor, the Rev. Larry D. Jennings Sr.
