Boys and Girls State Participants Honored

Assemblyman Steve Stern, a  member of the New York State Assembly Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, joined with the Greenlawn American Legion Post #1244 recently to recognize the achievement of high school juniors who participated in the Boy’s and Girl’s State Program.

The program for high school juniors gives students a unique opportunity to learn about our government, promotes civic awareness and participation in our communities.   Through the creation of a “Model State” government, the students participate in mock legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement, assemblies and other group activities that provide “A Week that Shapes a Lifetime.”

“These impressive young men and women are great role models,” Stern said.  “Their demonstrated concern and interest in government and their engagement in the democratic process is inspiring.  They are the leaders of tomorrow and I congratulate them and their mentors from the Greenlawn American Legion Post #1244 for their commitment to our community.”
