Brown Beats Macco; Mattera Defeats Berland

Assemblyman Keith Brown was re-elected Tuesday night over Democratic challenger Cooper Macco. And in the 2nd State Senate race, incumbent Mario Mattera defeated Susan A. Berland.

The Republican in the 12th Assembly District won with about 56 percent of the vote.

In 2nd State Senate race, Mattera took 58 percent of the vote to Berland’s 41 percent.

Brown took office in January 2021, succeeding Andrew Raia.

The 2nd District expanded deeper into Huntington this year through redistricting, pushing State Sen. Jim Gaughran out of the race.

Berland previously served on the Huntington Town Board and in the Suffolk County Legislature, where she was majority leader until she was defeated by Manny Esteban.
