Several Huntington women of distinction were honored Saturday at a Women’s History Month event.
The Huntington NAACP celebration at Chez Laa Reine Boutique included the recognition of:
The Rev. Bernadette Watkins, Jo-Ann Raia, former Huntington town clerk, Dr. Nichele Nivens, Pilar Moya, housing advocate, Irene Moore, chair of the African American Historic Designation Council, Jillian Guthman, receiver of taxes, Dr. Johnasina L. Cummings, Town Councilwoman Joan Cergol, Erica Braxton-Parris, educator, Wendy Blair Braxton, educator and Stephanie Bontempi, Suffolk County legislator.
“The whole idea is that this is Women’s History Month and we wanted to celebrate the women of Huntington, especially since women are often overlooked,” Dolores Thompson, who is chair of the NAACP’s WIN (Women in NAACP) Committee.
