Tenants at 15 Park Circle, Centerport, including Suffolk County Legislator William “Doc” Spencer, are getting the boot as a developer makes plans to turn the office building into a funeral home.
The building has been owned by Whitehouse Re LLC since 2016.
Zoned as C-6, the site has undergone some renovation in recent months, according to town records, including parking lot work to accommodate loading and loading spaces for two hearses, and some interior work needed for renovation into a funeral home.
Town spokeswoman Lauren Lembo said funeral homes are permitted in the C-6 zoning designation, and that no review by the Planning Board or Zoning Board of Appeals was required.
The building sits on about 3/4 of an acre of land, at the corner of Park Circle and Little Neck Road, next to the Centerport Fire Department.
Residents have been fighting a proposal to build a -7 Eleven store steps away, at Little Neck and Route 25A.
Spencer’s office is negotiating a lease in Northport. Property records indicate about a half dozen tenants occupy the building now.
No further information, including whether a specific funeral home has signed a lease to move in, was immediately available.
