Child Approached at School Bus Stop

A girl waiting at a school bus stop was approached Tuesday morning by someone driving a minibus and invited to board the vehicle, Huntington school superintendent James W. Polansky told parents.

According to his message sent out over the district’s ParentSquare system, the minibus driver approached the child at the stop at Hillwood and Pearwood Drives. The driver was described as a white woman in her 20s with short brown hair. She asked a question about the identiy of the student’s school and invited the girl to board the bus but a parent standing nearby at the stop intervened. The minibus, which was not connected to any school transportation contractors, left the scene. That parent later notified the school district, and police were notified.

Suffolk police confirmed the report but offered no further details.

Polansky said the district would update parents as needed, and encouraged parents to notify the Second Precinct at 631 854-8200 if anything similar occurred.
