Chutzpah Theatre to Offer Musical Tribute

The Chutzpah Repertory Theatre at Temple Beth El of Huntington will offer a musical tribute on Dec. 8 honoring Joanne Fried, who passed away in July.

Musical numbers will be performed by many singers and dancers whose lives she touched throughout the years, both at The Chutzpah Repertory Theater (CRT) and with Broadway Showstoppers. You will be delighted by songs from Fiddler On The RoofGypsySouth PacificLa Cage Aux Folles and many more.

“Joanne gave us the ‘chutzpah’ to do things we were afraid to try on our own.  She took us out of our comfort zone, not only in performing, but in life. Her imagination was one of a kind and our respect for her will never diminish,” remarks Li Josenhans, CRT producer.

She was one of the founding members of The Chutzpah Repertory Theatre and a congregant of Temple Beth El of Huntington for over 30 years. In her 20 years at Chutzpah, she was director and/or choreographer to wonderful musical productions such as Annie!, Music Man, Oliver, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The King and I, Guys and  Dolls among others.

In addition to her commitment to CRT at Temple Beth El, Fried was an integral part of the Chutzpah Troubadours – a traveling group of singers and dancers, who performed at nursing homes, Breast Cancer walks and hospitals. Joanne also brought her talent to Port Washington’s Community Synagogue, Star Playhouse at Suffolk Y JCC in Commack and, along with her dear friend Helene Tiger, created “Broadway Showstoppers” performing at various venues in the Long Island area.  In addition, Joanne was a performer in The Red Hot Mamas, a professional tap-dancing group with women ranging in age from 54-89 years old. The Mamas performed at various venues across Long Island.

Tickets are $20, reserved seating only.  The performance is set fort 8:30PM, preceded by a wine and cheese reception at 7:45 a.m.
