Word Up Long Island Litfest is presenting celebrity chef and cookbook author Lidia Bastianich later this month at the Cinema Arts Centre.
The author of 13 cookbooks and an Emmy Award-winning TV show host, Bastianich specializes in Italian and Italian-American cuisine.
She will be interviewed by Newsday’s Erica Marcus at the Sept.28 event, in a discussion about her newest book, My American Dream: A Life of Love, Family and Food.
Bastianich grew up behind the Iron Curtain in Pola, a small city on the southern tip of the Istrian Peninsula. In her new memoir, Bastianich takes readers from her life under communism, a dramatic escape across the border and life as a refugee, to her journey to America – penniless – and the launch of her food business.
