Cleanups Around Huntington Mark Earth Day

A cool, sunny Earth Day brought out groups and individuals wanting to clean up their neighborhoods and brighten up Huntington a bit.

Friends of Huntington Station Latin Quarter and Huntington Matters were back with their annual cleanup of Huntington Station, setting up shop on New York Avenue and handing out cleaning supplies to young and old alike.

On the grounds of the South Huntington Public Library, a new group, South Huntington-Huntington Station Civic Association, cleared litter from a brushy area with the help of Cub Scouts and others.

On Saturday, water experts from Stony Brook University, the Pine Barrens and members of the Nature Conservancy discussed ways to protect Long Island’s water from harmful algal blooms in a forum at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Huntington.
