Coltrane Day to be Filled With Celebration of Music

Saturday is Coltrane Day, with jam sessions, jazz, rap, funk electronic music, food, environmental exhibits, food and beer, and family activities.

The legendary blues musician John Coltrane and his wife, jazz pianist Alice Coltrane, lived in Dix Hills until his death in 1967. He is considered one of the most influential saxophonists in music history.

All events are scheduled for Heckscher Park or the vicinity,  including Old First Church, Heckscher Museum or Cinema Arts Centre.

Headliners include Michelle Coltrane, Fantuzzi, Zen Tricksters, Jeff Matson, Dave Diamond, Funk Filharmonik and more.

The event, running from noon to 10:30 p.m., is sponsored by the Coltrane Home, the Huntington Arts Council and the Town of Huntington.

Admission is free; members of the public are encouraged to bring a nonperishable food item to donate to Long Island Cares.
