Coming Up: Blood Drives, Park Dedication

As we head into our last week of mostly schoolbus-free streets before school doors open again, check out some of the events around Huntington. Some of them are free; some ask you to give something of yourself.

Monday:
The Town of Huntington will rename Sweet Hollow Park the Alissa Sue Taff Sweet Hollow Park, in honor of the community activist who died Aug.14.

The Paramount is hosting a blood drive from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, with a giveaway of free tickets to donors.

Tuesday:
Temple Beth El is hosting a blood drive from 2-8 p.m., and offering gift cards to donors. To schedule an appointment or for questions, email Debi at [email protected] or Robin at [email protected].

Wednesday:
The Police and the Constitution, a talk by a constitutional historian, is scheduled for 10:15 a.m.-12:30 pm at the South Huntington Public Library. Sponsored by The Greens Men’s Club, open to the public.

Huntington Opportunity Resource Center, 1264 New York Ave, Huntington Station. Conversation among community members, leaders, and law enforcement in an effort to improve communication, mutual respect and safety for all.  6-8 p.m.

Thursday-Friday-Saturday, Monday: Greenlawn Fire Department Fair

Friday-Sunday:
A 48-hour film-making challenge starts at 8 p.m. and runs until Sunday at 8 pm. Teams won’t know the genre until the competition starts. Random elements will be added at the starting line. Reasons to compete include getting to see your creation on the big screen, adding a new film to your portfolio, and being in the running for a cash prize. At Cinema Arts Centre.  Register.

Recycling this week: bottles, plastics, cans.
