Concert in Huntington to Commemorate Harry Chapin

Long Island Cares is commemorating the 40th anniversary of the death of singer-songwriter Harry Chapin, with a “Wild About Harry” concert series.

Members of the Chapin family,  featuring Tom Chapin, Jen Chapin, and the Chapin sisters, will perform Friday from the Chapin Rainbow Stage in Huntington.  The concert will also be streamed live on Facebook. The concert is free but donations of non-perishable food items are welcome.

Harry Chapin, whose songs included “Taxi,”  “Cat’s in the Cradle,” and “W-O-L-D,” was killed in a car crash on the Long Island Expressway in 1981. Before his death, he took up numerous social causes, especially hunger and poverty, leading to the founding of Long Island Cares in 1980.

The Chapin series kicks off the Huntington Arts Council’s summer arts festival, which runs through Aug. 8.
