Cops and Community Share Food, Conversation

Suffolk police and residents shared some barbecue and conversation Sunday at Brothers Barber Shop in Huntington Station.

David Burgess, the barbershop’s owner, said i know some of the barriers between the community and officers of the law. i wanted to do something to promote a better society for for the kids we’re trying to raise. I’ve been in business for over 20 years so I’ve seen kids from the high chair to when they graduate college. And we want to see them come up in a safe environment. Some of them come out of environments where they don’t have proper family structure so we just try to give them instruction and have these kids go down a straight path.

“We have a lot of kids in this community. I would like to see the parks get a little better so we could implement a Big Brother program, let these kids get a workout, sponsor a team,” and other programs to help children develop.

There was also a raffle for an electric scooter.

Tuesday, the Suffolk police and the Tri-CYA Community and Youth Agency are sponsoring a community barbecue as part of National Night Out, from 4-7 pm. There will be free food, entertainment and giveaways. At Tri-CYA headquarters ,809 New  York Ave., Huntington.
