Coronavirus Update: IRS Pushes Back Tax Deadline; LIRR, Some Businesses Set No-Cash Policies

The deadline for filing taxes has been pushed back to July 15 from April 15, the IRS announced Friday morning. 

“We are moving Tax Day from April 15 to July 15,” Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said. “All taxpayers and businesses will have this additional time to file and make payments without interest or penalties.”

MTA cleaning cars

The Long Island Rail Road will not accept cash onboard trains or at ticket windows, the railroad said.

Cash will be accepted only at ticket machines. The LIRR recommended that passengers use mobile ticketing by downloading MTA eTix for ticket purchases.

Credit cards will still be accepted on board trains and at ticket windows, which represents oil-delivery companies, said drivers would no longer accept cash. The service usually offers a discount for cash.
