Coronavirus Update: St. Anthony’s to Close for Cleaning; Authors Cancel

St. Anthony’s High School will close Thursday and Friday for cleaning against the coronavirus, the school announced on its website Wednesday afternoon. 

  • Several authors scheduled to appear at the Book Revue have canceled because of concerns about traveling, the store announced Wednesday afternoon. Lisa SeeNewt Gingrich, Terry and Heather Dubrow were scheduled to appear on various dates in March. The store said that as of Wednesday, no other cancellations had been reported. Signed book-plated copies of their books are available. 
  • A state championship ice hockey game will be played this weekend without spectators, the New York State Public High School Athletic Association said. Robert Zayas, NYSPHSAA executive director, said “this is certainly not the type of championship atmosphere our association strives to provide to our student-athletes and their communities.  This decision is being made at the recommendation of the Erie County Department of Health out of an abundance of caution as we address the coronavirus.” No changes have been made in the bowling or basketball championships.
  • Assemblyman Steve Stern noted that the state ha established a hotline to report cases of price gouging related to the coronavirus. To report  a vendor,  call 800-697-1220.
  • The New York City St. Patrick’s Day is canceled.
