Countrywood to Go Remote Until Sept. 24 After Positive Covid-19 Test

A Countrywood Primary Center teacher has tested positive for Covid-19, leading the South Huntington School District to put the school on remote learning until Sept. 24, Superintendent David Bennardo said Monday.

Because the staffer’s job brings him into contact with a large number of students, and not just one class, Bennardo said, “The unique nature of this person’s  responsibilities make it impossible for us to quarantine just a single class of students or a few staff members. It’s just impossible.”

Bennardo said that  the chance of virus spread is low and the decision is “completely precautionary and not designed in any way to insinuate that we have a large-scale outbreak of any sort” and that the decision is rooted in the nature of the teacher’s contact with many students.

The teacher reported the positive test on Monday; Bennardo said the staffer was experiencing  mild to moderate symptoms and was recovering at home.
