Covid-19 Has Claimed 86 in Huntington

The Covid-19 epidemic has claimed 86 lives in Huntington, town records show.

As the epidemic swept through New York and Long Island, the Covid-19 cases represented about a third of all recorded deaths, Town Clerk Andrew Raia said. Now, he said, they represent about half of the deaths as  those who were sickest the longest succumb to the disease.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Friday morning that 777 residents had died since Thursday, bringing the statewide total since the epidemic began to 7,844.

Total infected in Suffolk County climbed to 20,497, with 2,610 confirmed in Huntington or 11.54 cases per 1,000 people.

Huntington Station continues to be the center of the epidemic in town, with 714 cases of infection, meaning 21.47 cases per thousand residents.
