Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said Thursday that more than 92,000 state residents have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, with more than 8,669 new positives reported Thursday. He also said that New York State deaths totaled 2,373, up 432 from 1,941 Wednesday. The governor also warned that the state would soon run out of ventilators unless it received new ones.
Suffolk County reported said that, as of 2:30 p.m. 1,057 patients are hospitalized (an increase of 157 from Wednesday, 314 of those are in the intensive care unit , an increase 42 and a total of 84 have died in Suffolk County. More than 21,400 COVID-19 tests have been administered.
Cuomo has established the New York State PAUSE Enforcement Assistance Task Force for individuals to file complaints about the operation of non-essential businesses or gatherings 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through an online form or by calling 1-833-789-0470.
The Town of Huntington added more facilities to the closure list. Newly closed facilities include skate parks, beach parking lots, all athletics fields and courts, except tennis.

- The Lidl store on East Jericho Turnpike closed abruptly Thursday afternoon and posted a note that it would remain shut temporarily while the store was being cleaned.
- The temporary hospital set up at the Jacob K. Javits center in Manhattan will take Covid-19 patients after all, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced Thursday. The original plan was that facility to take other patients and leave city hospitals to handle virus cases. But that plan shifted as the number of Covid cases increased so significantly that the beds in the new hospital were needed.
- The state will conduct a nightly survey, hospital by hospital, of supplies. Hospitals are being asked to hand over any supplies they do’t need to facilities that need them now.
- More than 21,000 out of state professionals have volunteered to work in New York State’s healthcare system, among the 85,400 total have have signed up.
- The state will pay for businesses to convert facilities to manufacture personl protection equipment.
- Consumers and small businesses experiencing financial hardship because of the epidemic can defer paying health insurance premiums through June 1.
- There were 52,390 new unemployment claims from Long Island last week.
- Landscaping for maintenance and pest control purposes has been designated as essential. Nurseries and greenhouses selling food-producing plants are classified as essential services.
- Deaths in New York City exceed 1,500.
