Gov. Kathy Hochul reported the following Covid-19 updates on Sunday, as the state recorded a sharp spike in cases, attributed to indoor gatherings and waning immunity, and the omicron variant on top of the delta variant.

- 7-Day Average Percent Positive – 6.88%
- Patient Hospitalization – 3,880 (-29)
- Patients Newly Admitted – 542
- Patients in ICU – 761 (+16)
- Patients in ICU with Intubation – 448 (+11)
- Total Discharges – 223,318 (+540)
- New deaths reported by healthcare facilities through HERDS – 58
- Total deaths reported by healthcare facilities through HERDS – 47,551
Hospitalization, Suffolk County, data from Friday
- 328 individuals were hospitalized, increase of 15 in 24 hours
- 54 were new admissions
- 54 patients were in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), an increase of 3 in 24 hours
- 27 patients were in the ICU and intubated
- 39 were discharged since the last report
- 17,953 have been discharged since March 22, 2020
58 New Yorkers died due to COVID-19, bringing the total to 47,551. A geographic breakdown is as follows, by county of residence:
