A reminder about safety during the Covid-19 shutdown:
From Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo: “As the weather gets warmer, it is important that we continue to practice social distancing — by keeping six feet of distance from others and staying home as much as possible. New Yorkers are required to
wear a mask or face covering in public when social distancing can’t be maintained. The best way we can thank our frontline heroes — many of whom literally gave their lives to protect others — is to act responsibly.”
Employers of workers classified as essential–from medical to grocery stores to media–must provide cloth or medical face masks.
State Parks
The state parks department also reminds visitors that measures to reduce park density and maintain social distance are in effect. Visitors should be familiar with social distancing guidelines when visiting the outdoors and have an alternative plan ready if they arrive at a park that has reached capacity or appears crowded. State Parks has reduced the number of available parking spaces, and many parks will close to incoming traffic by noon. Illegally parked vehicles will be ticketed and may be towed.
Child-care Scholarships
New York State will provide child care scholarships to all essential workers. Essential workers include first responders such as health care providers, pharmaceutical staff, law enforcement, firefighters, food delivery workers, grocery store employees and others who are needed to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Child care costs will be covered with $30 million in federal CARES Act funding to essential staff whos net income is less than 300 percent of the federal poverty level – or $78,600 for a family of four – and will be paid up to market rate for each region statewide.
