The streets of East Northport will be filled with runners Saturday as the 12th annual Cpl. Christopher G. Scherer I Did the Grid Run/Walk gets underway.
Beginning at Pulaski Elementary School, runners and walkers will round the course’s 31 turns with the names of four service members on their bibs.
On Friday, the community is encouraged to come to Pulaski Elementary School, the starting point of the “I Did The Grid” race, and help plant flags to honor those killed in service to the country.
It is the first of nine races that form the Suffolk County Veterans Run Series.
Cpl. Scherer, a Marine, was killed July 21, 2007 while serving in Iraq. He was 21 years old.
