Crane Collapses Onto Building in Melville

A crane collapse Thursday damaged a building a building in Melville but no one was injured, public safety officials said.

The Melville Fire Department responded to the crane collapse into an office building on Broad Hollow Road near Arlington Street. The accident occurred when a strut broke on the truck and lifted the crane off the ground and into the building.

WABC-TV said that a company called MCN Distributors from Islandia was apparently removing two air conditioner/heating units and delivering new ones at the time.

The Town of Huntington Building Department was on scene to assess the damage.

About 20 Melville firefighters and rescue personnel were dispatched with an engine, heavy rescue, ladder truck, ambulance and Fire Police, under the direction of Chiefs Chris Nolan, David Kaplan and Bill Schmitt.
