Driver, 21, Killed in Harbor Road Crash

Updated: A Huntington Station man was killed Thursday morning after his vehicle struck a utility pole on northbound Harbor Road in Cold Spring Harbor, Suffolk County Police said..

Jason Mocte-Zuma was operating a 2013 Honda Civic sedan when his vehicle struck a utility pole and overturned about 11 a.m. Mocte-Zuma, 21, of Huntington Station was taken by Cold Spring Harbor Rescue to Huntington Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

There were no passengers in the vehicle.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.

South Huntington schools superintendent David Bennardo posted a message Sunday afternoon that read, “It is with a heavy heart that we report the passing of Whitman graduate Jason Mocte-Zuma who has been tragically killed in an auto accident. Jason, who was a wonderful student and dedicated South Huntington athlete, brought tremendous accomplishment and joy to our schools, earning the admiration of students and staff alike.

“While the loss of any young life is tragic, the passing of one of our own hits particularly close to home and puts the importance and fragility of life in true perspective.”
