About 300 residents gathered Thursday night to support a fundraiser for the Sorrentino family’s Thanksgiving turkey giveaway.
The donors met for food and drinks at the Dix Hills Fire Department. Elected leaders, including Town Supervisor Ed Smyth, Town Council members Joan Cergol and Dr. David Bennardo, Town Tax Receiver Jillian Guthman, Suffolk Legislator Stephanie Bontempi, as well as fire fighters, Suffolk police officers, community leaders and others attended.
Sorrentino, who is Huntington highway superintendent, has led a giveaway of turkeys and other Thanksgiving foods for 13 years. This year’s is scheduled for Nov.21, and Sorrentino said turkeys will be accepted throughout the day before the giveaway in Huntington Station.
