Cuomo Order Extends Three-Week Delay on Property Taxes

The state has granted residents a three-week delay to pay their property taxes without a penalty or interest.

The extension was approved for residents of municipalities that had requested it. The executive order notes the approval of numerous Long Island villages, including Asharoken and Huntington Bay, and Suffolk County.  June 21 is the new due date.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo signed the executive order last week.

Suffolk County Comptroller John Kennedy told Newsday that  because everyone can get the extension, and not just those hit by a Covid-19 hardship, could challenge county finances.

Newsday reported that Bellone and other Suffolk officials were not aware of the order until a few days after the governor signed the order.
