Cuthbertson to Lead Huntington Democrats

Former Huntington Town Councilman Mark Cuthbertson has been named chairman of the Huntington Democratic Committee.

“The overriding goal is to reinvigorate the party; it was a tough election season last year,” he said. That includes “recruiting and retaining committee members, supporting candidates in the midterm elections, doing a better job of messaging and raising money.”

Cuthbertson is an attorney who was first elected to the Town Board in 1998. He will succeed Frank Petrone, a former town supervisor, who led the Democratic committee for about 16 months before resigning in November, shortly after the election that resulted in Republicans sweeping across Long Island, including Huntington. One of the races Democrats lost was the 18th Suffolk Legislative District, with Stephanie Bontempi defeating Cuthbertson in a race to succeed Democrat William “Doc” Spencer.
