Melanie D’Arrigo, the progressive candidate who is running to become the US representative in the Third Congressional District, has won the endorsement of Sonia Ossorio, the president of the New York chapter of the National Organization for Women.
“Melanie is a proven leader who has been on the frontlines raising the issues and making change for women and their families,” Ossorio said in a statement. “From reproductive healthcare and rights to fair pay, she has the track record to win advances for all of us.”
“As a former delegate to NOW, I am especially proud to receive the endorsement of my friend, Sonia Ossorio,” D’Arrigo said. “Sonia’s leadership as the president of New York’s NOW has inspired countless women to lead, myself included.”
She is running to succeed Tom Suozzi, who is running for governor.
Suozzi Endorsements
Four electrical worker union locals have endorsed Congressman Tom Suozzi for governor.
At a campaign rally over the weekend at the IBEW Local 3 headquarters in Flushing, Queens, Suozzi, the US representative from the Third Congressional District who is running in the Democratic primary against Gov. Kathy Hochul, received the backing of members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Locals 3, 25 and 1049, and Utility Workers of America Local 1-2.
“Electricity is about power. This race is about power to the people,” Suozzi said. “I’m fighting for the people, I’m fighting for you, I’m not fighting for the insiders or the establishment, I’m fighting for the real-life issues that affect your life. New York State has been an insider game for the past four decades. I’m running to change that, and to finally address rising crime, lower taxes, our sky-high utility rates, and to fix our troubled schools.”
Based in New York City, Long Island, and Westchester, the locals represent more than 40,000 members. Along with the nearly one hundred thousand registered Democrats who have joined Suozzi on his regional tele-town halls across the state, this important endorsement shows the strength of Suozzi’s campaign, that continues to grow and build momentum across the state.
