The deadline to register for the exam to become a Suffolk County correction officer has been extended to Oct. 6.
The test date is Nov. 13, the sheriff’s office said.
Correction officers work inside the county jails in Riverhead and Yaphank, and in other offices in Central Islip, Brentwood, and Westhampton.
To qualify for the exam:
- Standard High School or High School Equivalency Diploma
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must be a resident of Suffolk County
- Must be 21 years of age (or 20 years and 6 months by date of written test)
- No age restriction
- Pass a medical, psychological and background Investigation
- Must pass the Cooper Physical Fitness Test
