Two disaster recovery centers are opening on Long Island to help residents affected by remnants of Hurrricane Ida that came across the area two weeks ago.
The Nassau County DRC is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily and located at: Michael J. Tully Park Physical Activity Center – 1801 Evergreen Ave, New Hyde Park

The Suffolk County DRC opens Wednesday afternoon and will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at: Rose Caracappa Senior Center – 739 NY-25A, Mt Sinai.
Suffolk County’s center will be operating a mobile center before moving into its fixed location.
Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the opening of the centers to provide information, assistance and help. These in-person locations will have recovery specialists from FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration on-site available to answer questions and provide information regarding the types of federal assistance homeowners, renters and business owners qualify for following the Major Disaster Declaration signed by President Biden on Sept. 5.
Both Nassau County and Suffolk County were recently approved to be added to the Major Disaster Declaration for both Individual and Public Assistance. Personnel from state agencies such as the Department of Financial Services, Department of Health, Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance, Office of Children and Family Services and Department of Labor will be stationed within the DRCs to connect affected residents with state programs or services that may be available to assist them in their recovery.
