Dix Hills FD Responds to House Fire

Dix Hills firefighters stopped a house fire on Vanderbilt Parkway within five minutes of arriving Friday evening, keeping it from spreading further than the basement and an exterior wall.

When firefighters arrived about 6:10 p.m. Friday, they found smoke in the house and a fire in the basement. Crews contained the blaze. The cause of the fire appears to be accidental and is under investigation by the Town of Huntington Fire Marshal and the Suffolk Police Arson Squad. No injuries were reported.

Four engines, two ambulances, and a paramedic unit were dispatched with 30 firefighters and rescue personnel, under the direction of assistant chiefs Alan Berkowitz and Joe Williamson. Huntington Manor firefighters provided standby coverage during the alarm.
