The state Department of Motor Vehicles office will soon be moving from Huntington to Dix Hills.
Michael Murphy of Douglas Elliman Real Estate confirmed that the DMV will take 9,000 square feet of space in the RetroFitness building at 1850 East Jericho Turnpike. Murphy is executive vice president and head of operations at the commercial division.
The move is expected to occur by early next year, and construction work is underway in the new location.
The DMV has been at Huntington Commons, often known as the Big H center at 813 New York Ave. for several years, moving from a building on Pulaski Road. Just recently, ShopRite announced it will be moving into the space vacated by the closing of Kmart, and the restaurant Tommy Tacos opened.
The reason for the move is unknown; DMV representatives did not respond to multiple requests for information.
Long Island Business News reported the real estate deal last week.
