The Dolan Family Health Center in Greenlawn has received $45,000 this year from Pink Aid Long Island to assist women who could not otherwise afford or receive breast cancer screenings and support services.
The center is one of three Northwell Health sites to receive Pink Aid contributions. The grant funds both screening and diagnostic mammograms; breast sonograms; cyst aspirations and biopsies for Long Island women who are uninsured or underinsured. Pink Aid grants to the Dolan Center have totaled $170,000 since 2014, which has helped approximately 850 women obtain breast cancer screenings and follow-up care.
The Northwell Health Cancer Institute at Center for Advanced Medicine in New Hyde Park received a $30,000 grant to help with non-medical emergent needs for uninsured and underinsured women who are either actively receiving breast cancer treatment or undergoing postoperative care. Financial support offered through Pink Aid can assist with transportation to and from appointments; food-related expenses; house cleaning; childcare; wigs; and post-mastectomy garments.
Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead received Pink Aid grants totaling $30,000 this year.
“The Pink Aid Long Island grants we have received have gone a long way in helping us to allow women to get these vitally important tests,” said Richard Barakat, MD, physician-in-chief at Northwell Health Cancer Institute. “We appreciate Pink Aid Long Island’s continued generosity.”
Pink Aid Long Island Co-President Rosemary Connors noted, “Knowing that our grants are helping women, who often put everyone else before themselves, put their health as it relates to breast cancer first has been so rewarding. Our partnership with Northwell Health’s facilities has helped us change so many women’s lives.”
