Dolan Health Center Moving to New York Avenue

The Dolan Family Health Center will move out of its Pulaski Road location to New York Avenue in Huntington Station next spring, Huntington Hospital said Thursday.

It will be renamed the Northwell Family Health Center at Huntington, said Dr. Nick Fitterman, executive director of Huntington Hospital, after it moves into the property occupied by the former Capital One bank at 1572 New York Ave.

There are three reasons for the move, he said: to bring healthcare to the people who need the services Northwell provides, to refresh the Dolan Center, and to have equal or more clinical space.

“We looked at the patients we care for and found that about 30 percent have challenges getting there,” Fitterman said. “It’s on two bus lines and within walking distance for many patients.”

Fitterman said that while the building at 1572 New York Ave. won’t be a complete teardown, nearly all of the former bank will be replaced. The lease has already been signed.

He plans to increase services offered now, including  pediatric and home health care, and expand its nutritional services with its partnership with Island Harvest, working to assure that patients in the community who lack sufficient food receive what they need.

The Dolan building, which also houses specialists such as oncologists on its second floor, will unite with a neighboring Northwell facility serving cancer patients.
